Dermabrasion is a controlled mechanical abrading of the surface skin using a grinder. This is similar to laser treatment; an irritant that simulates regeneration of skin cells and collagen in the treated areas. The process is also used to mitigate scars (including acne scars). Dermabrasion can also be used as an additional treatment after a face tightening.
Who can Dermabrasion help?
Dermabrasion is suitable for men and women with deep wrinkles in the facial area, especially around the mouth. Similarly acne scars, post-accident or operation scars can also be abraded. However, patients with excessive scarring (hyper trophic, keloid) cannot be helped by Dermabrasion.
During the consultation, your wishes and thoughts are discussed. Similarly, we will verify whether your scarring can be helped by a dermabrasion.
How does Dermabrasion work?
A Dermabrasion applies a rotating grinder to the respective areas of skin. The skin surface is abraded and the upper skin layer removed, so that when it regenerates the skin becomes smoother. This type of wrinkle treatment is performed using a mild anaesthetic, possibly in combination with sedation. As with laser treatment, a course of herpes zoster prophylaxis antiviral tablets starts a day before the procedure and for five more days following it. The procedure lasts approximately 15-30 minutes and depends on the extent of the area to be treated.
After the treatment, the treated areas must be cooled and anti-infection cream applied. Healing takes about one week, but the new skin is still very sensitive and should not be exposed to direct sunlight for a few weeks.
