To show profile is easy to suggest but hard to express, especially if the size of the nose and chin are not in a harmonious relationship. Before nose surgery (rhinoplasty) is embarked on, always the overall profile harmony has to be considered. This is particularly important in relation to the shape of the chin. While a receding chin, especially if there is a relatively large nose, may give the wrong impression of a lack of assertiveness or even intelligence, a prominent chin in face female makes it looking hard. The profile analysis is made on the basis of standard photographs, and sometimes also requires X-rays.
As part of an advisory discussion the plastic surgeon will first discuss your concerns and ideas with you. After careful analysis of your facial proportions, including photographs, and dental occlusion, a plan is outlined which is the basis procedure. We want to give you an accurate idea of what to expect.
Surgical Procedure of Chin Correction
Genioplasty is a safe procedure, which is generally performed under general anaesthesia on an outpatient basis via an incision in the oral mucosa invisible from the outside section. A protruding chin as well as a receding chin can be corrected by a bone cut. In this case, the chin is moved forward or backward and stably fixed. Alternatively, to a prosthesis can be used for augmentation. The bony correction has the advantage that the neck muscles are tightened as well, and the impression of a double chin is eliminated.
The jaw stability is thus not affected, so that you can chew normally after a few days. Morbidity is rather low, and may be compared to a wisdom tooth removal However, you should take time off for some days. A soft diet and mouth rinses are required for three days.
