Lymph Vessel Transplants

Important Questions about Lymph Vessel Transplants

During our consultations we have noticed that many patients have the same queries about the lymph vessel transplant procedure. For your convenience we have listed three of the most important and often asked questions below.

  1. I have had a lymph oedema since I was born. Can lymph vessel transplant surgery benefit me?

Unfortunately primary lymphoedema cannot be helped by a lymph vessel transplant, because in this case the whole lymphatic system has changed and bridging is not possible.

  2. How long am I impaired for after the operation?

The hospital stay is about 10 days, with 3-4 of those days devoted to bed rest. Light sports should be possible after two weeks, while after 3-4 weeks you can return to work.

  3. Does the health insurance company cover the costs?

Yes, the health insurance company covers the costs, as this is a medically necessary intervention. If you are insured through the government health insurance system, you can arrange a consultation at the University of Freiburg Hospital’s lymphology clinic. However, if you are privately insured, you can come directly to the Erich-Lexer-Clinic for the consultation and the operation can be performed here as well.
